We are currently glamping in a cabin at Huttopia at Senonches and I am registered head chef! Fully enjoying the gift that is the barbeque, so far I have cooked burgers, sausages and rabbit (holidays are a great time for firsts). In Senonches there was a fab market that had all kinds of delicious food. By seriously testing my mum's French, we managed to buy 8 apricots, 2 oranges, 4 flat peaches and a handful of green beans. Anyone know the French for a handful? As a dancer my miming skills aren't bad, but I have yet to come across a ballet that requires the mime for "a handful of green beans". That's now on my bucket list to include in my choreography at some point!
So on to the title:
I recently discovered flat peaches in Tesco (not so exotic) and immediately became obsessed. They are probably one of my favourite fruits now and the ones that we have got in France so far were amazing - in season and gloriously ripe. Another healthy food that I discovered in England is fennel. Although I never had a licorice obsession, the fact that the flavour is re-created in a vegetable is pretty damn cool... And I can use my mandolin on it which is ALWAYS a good thing. Therefore, my favourite things on holiday so far have been France, fennel and flat peaches
Back to the rabbit, which I barbequed for lunch today. After hacking at it for 10 minutes trying to get it off the bone, I realised that I wasn't getting anywhere and barbequed it whole. Of course, the meat then came off pretty easily once it was cooked, and I turned it into a warm salad with mango and green beans. Check out my rabbit and mango salad here.
